The Weber Blue Dog hasn’t come in yet, so I still have the G12H30s in the cab. I decided to do a quick recording so that I’ll have something to reference to the new speakers. I don’t have a mic stand at the house, so I just hung an SM58 in front of one of the speakers. I’m sure that the positioning is terrible. I have the amp set pretty clean – both of the gains are around 9:00 and the master is up around 1:00. I kick on the boost (set pretty low) at about 1:05. I used my Les Paul and my DD-20.

Let me know what you think.

  1. It sounds rich and round. I love it. It is a heavenly thing to play an amp with tone that inspires you to play. Sadly, my Line 6 Spider Valve is not doing that for me right now.

  2. Sounds good. Can’t wait to hear how it sounds with the new speakers.

  3. Hey Andy G, you should try dropping the mids to about two or three and then jacking up the bass and treble to compensate. I have a Peavey Delta Blues 115 combo that I couldn’t get a good sound out of until my friend who has been playing forever messed with the controls. Now everything sounds rich and smooth. Alot of times the only problem with the tone is too much mids. My amp sounded like there was way too much abrasive treble but when I backed the mids off the treble sounded alot smoother. Try that. Hope it helps.

  4. Be careful about cutting the mids too much. It may sound good when you’re playing by yourself, but you’ll disappear in a band context if you overdo it.

  5. Wow… that sounds really nice. I like it a lot. Looking forward t osee the difference.

@Andy… maybe look into getting a new speaker or something.

I also had someone tweak with my amp a while back and I liked the sound I got. I have a peavey classic 30 with a celestion speaker I put in. I have the bass and mid around 4 and the treble at 7. I play with humbuckers with the rhythm selection on the pick up switch. Sounds great to me.
